Backend Engineer, Payments

A correctness-first team. The tailoring pushes every claim about speed down and every claim about invariants up, which is the opposite of the usual advice.

What the posting asks for
  • Has worked on money movement or another correctness-critical path
  • Understands idempotency beyond the definition
  • Comfortable with reconciliation and audit requirements
2 proposed changes, with reasons
Change 1

Before: Worked on the refunds service.

After: Built the idempotency layer for refunds; duplicate processor callbacks stopped producing double credits.

Why: They ask for idempotency "beyond the definition". A bug it prevented is what beyond the definition looks like.

Change 2

Before: Maintained reporting jobs.

After: Owned nightly reconciliation against the processor; cut unexplained variance to zero over one quarter.

Why: Reconciliation is named in the posting and was invisible on your resume.

What it could not fix
  • On-site in New York. Worth confirming before the recruiter screen.

Gaps are shown rather than papered over. The assistant rewrites how something is said; it does not invent something you did not do.
